Gene Nichols


Gene Nichols, a graduate of SUNY Potsdam and Northern Illinois University, is Professor of Music at the University of Maine at Machias, the nearest college to Summerkeys. He was a baritone horn player, truck driver and bandleader/Music Director for the Clyde Beatty-Cole Bros. Circus, and has performed with the Syracuse, Bangor and Passamaquoddy Bay Symphony Orchestras. He is a multi-instrumentalist whose principal musical pursuits lately have been: directing and performing with the UMM Ukulele Club (founded in 1928), improvising music with any number of local friends under the collective name Les Trois Étoiles, and composing new lyrics to his 7-beat mantra. He likes to make and hear music with whatever’s available.

Gene Nichols, Professor of Music at the University of Maine at Machias, is interested in all sorts of music, especially from scratch. Some favorite instruments are ukulele, bass trumpet, hubcaphone and saw.
