Ali Garrison

Ali Garrison

Alexandra “Ali” Garrison is an American-born, Toronto-raised performer, singer, teacher and lecturer. After graduating from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor with her degree in Vocal Performance, Ali began to investigate more deeply her own voice and the art of teaching voice with her mentor, master teacher, Dr. Angela Hawaleshka. Ms. Garrison has gone on to teach voice privately for eighteen years, and is an inspiring, beloved clinician, leading and facilitating many groups and ensembles. Over Ms. Garrison’s thirty-five year singing career, she has founded several professional vocal ensembles and performed a huge variety of operatic/theatrical roles with regional companies.

She is a frequent concert soloist with numerous ensembles and choirs in Canada and the U.S. and especially enjoys collaborating with artists, improvisers and composers to foster new works (having had several works composed specifically for her) and to promote music for a more harmonious world. As a founding member of the renowned Nathaniel Dett Chorale, Ali has toured extensively and performed as both a soloist and as part of the ensemble for such luminaries as Nelson Mandela and Graca Machel, Muhammad Ali, Bishop Desmond Tutu, Jesse Norman, Kathleen Battle, Stephen Lewis and was privileged to be Canada’s “gift” to President Obama’s Inauguration festivities. She is a member of ACTRA, a Gemini Nominee and has just produced a solo EP, entitled, Ali Garrison Sings Michel Legrand: The Summer Knows.
