July 7-11 (beginners)
For singers of all levels continuing their studies. For this workshop, Mr. Ferguson welcomes all ages and all experiences; she believes that a healthy approach to singing can be applied to any style of music. The week-long workshop begins on Sunday evening with an informal get together of those participating in the voice program. Schedules will be distributed and questions answered. The week will end with a Friday late afternoon/early evening performance class and reception. August 3-7 Choral Workshop Voice Building for Choristers Literally a “boot camp” for amateur choral singers. The week long study will offer singers an opportunity to develop their vocal technique and to build their voice to meet the challenges of the choral repertoire. There will be two two hours of rehearsal in the morning and two in the afternoon. Through the performing of choral music, participants will learn breathing and support techniques, resonance and placement of the voice, legato, staccato, and martellato singing. Also included will be techniques for extension of vocal ranges, vowel modification, tonal and rhythmic skills, diction, and the sound required for different styles of music. The music for study will include music form the Renaissance, Baroque, Romantic and the Twentieth century. There will be limited opportunities to take private voice lessons and to sing in small ensebles. No previous vocal training is required. A list of pieces to be studied will be sent to each particpant before the week begins. |
Jack Ferguson has been teaching
and performing and teaching for over 30 years. At present he is a member of
the Artist Faculty at the Westminster Choir College Conservatory in
Princeton, N.J. and maintains a private studio. As a member of the Artist
Faculty his teaching includes voice, organ, choral conducting, opera
lectures and Coordinator of the Church Music Certificate Program and is also
active as a choral, organ and voice clinician. Mr. Ferguson received his
B.Mus and Mmus from Westminster Choir College. During his undergraduate
program he appeared as baritone soloist in a performance of the Brahms
Requiem under Leopold Stowkowkis and the American Symphony Orchestra, was a
member of the touring Westminster Choir, and was awarded prizes for
distinction in church music. His teachers include Joseph Flummerfelt,
Alexander McCurdy, Eugene Roan, Lindsey Christiansen and Margaret Harshaw.
Post graduate studies have included Cambridge University, and independent
studies in France and Italy. Mr. Ferguson has performed extensively in the
Middle Atlantic states in opera, oratorio and art song, organ and voice
recitals as well as numerous performances at Westminster and master classes
with Ned Rorem, Gerard Souzay, Elly Ameling and Margaret Harshaw. He is a
member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. Currently his is
the sub organist at the Cadet Chapel, USMA, West Point, N.Y. |
