Setsuko Otake, Oboist, has a diverse and multifaceted career as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral performer, and as a teacher. As a soloist, she has performed a concerto with Cantori New York, choir known for its innovative programming, and with a chamber orchestra, the New York Symphonic Ensemble, with which she toured to Japan and SouthEast Asia. In 2009, she performed the world premiere of Water Leaf 4 for Oboe and Chamber Orchestra by Yoshihiro Kanno with North/South Consonance. Throughout the US and Japan,she has presented numerous chamber music recitals with her woodwind quintet and trio.
As an orchestral player, she holds second oboe/ English Horn position with the Riverside Symphonia in Lambertville, NJ. As a freelance oboist, she has played with New Jersey Symphony, Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, American Ballet Theater, New York City Ballet, Papermill Playhouse, and many more. Ms Otake also plays Broadway shows, most recently appearing frequently on Miss Saigon and the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Her love of chamber music led to cofound a chamber music series called the Broadway Chamber Players, which mission is to bring musicians from the Broadway pit to the stage.
At both private studio and at the Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn, New York, where she holds adjunct position as an oboe instructor, she enjoys teaching with a goal of finding the beauty in music with her students.
She received her Bachelor’s degree in Music from the Toho Gakuen School of Music, and her Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music.
