July 6-10

Instructor: Marilynn Mair

Tuition: $ 550
Ensemble Option: $100 per week.

The Week-long workshop provides a daily one-hour group class, a daily (Monday-Friday) 60-minute private lesson, and two hours of scheduled practice time (in a private studio) for each student, plus the opportunity to play and be coached in ensemble music not only with other mandolins, but also with flutists, violinists and pianists whose programs run the same week.

The workshop is open to students at all levels; there is no audition or entrance requirement other than owning an instrument and bringing it with you.

Marilynn Mair was born and lives in the USA, and studied mandolin here and in Europe. She is best known as a classical mandolinist, but lately is often found playing Brazilian choro, Piazzolla tangos, or her own original tunes. She has toured Europe, North America, the Far East, and Brazil, performing in Carnegie Hall, the White House, Lincoln Center, Tivoli Concert Hall, the Palffy Palace, and other venues. She has also released 10 highly acclaimed recordings, earning her the title, "First Lady of the American Mandolin." In addition to her solo career, Marilynn performs in duos, trios and ensembles, including Mair & Larrabee, the Mandolin World Summit, Enigmatica, and the New England Mandolin Ensemble. She has worked with a broad spectrum of musicians, from the Deutches Zupforchester and Musica Festiva Lincopensis, to the Rio Trio, Barry Mitterhof, Rudy Cipolla, Eddie "The Chief" Clearwater, and Duke Robbilard. Marilynn founded and directs the American Mandolin & Guitar Summer School, a national forum for mandolin & guitar instruction, and is a Professor of Music at Roger Williams University.
